Free 30-Minute Workplace Investigation Consultation
Not sure whether you need an independent workplace investigation?
Eastern Region Investigations offers a free, 30-minute, no-obligation initial consultation for businesses, employers and HR professionals considering an external investigation.
The consultation provides an opportunity to discuss the circumstances, understand what an independent investigation could involve and consider whether our services are appropriate for your organisation.
We can discuss:
-
The nature of the allegation or workplace concern
-
Whether an external investigation may be appropriate
-
Potential scope and lines of enquiry
-
Evidence that may need to be considered
-
The investigation process
-
Potential next steps
-
There is no obligation to instruct Eastern Region Investigations following the consultation.
How can we help?
Workplace concerns can be sensitive, complex and difficult to manage internally. Where an allegation requires an impartial assessment of the facts, an independent investigator can provide separation from the organisation's internal management structure.
Eastern Region Investigations provides independent workplace investigation services for businesses and organisations across Suffolk and the East of England.
We can work with employers, business owners, HR professionals and other organisations where an objective, evidence-led investigation is required.
When might an independent investigation be appropriate?
-
An allegation involves a member of management or senior employee
-
Internal impartiality could reasonably be questioned
-
A business does not have the appropriate resources or experience to conduct the investigation
-
An allegation is particularly sensitive
-
A conflict of interest exists
-
An organisation wants an independent fact-finding process
-
Additional investigative or evidence-gathering support is required
An external investigation can provide a clear separation between the investigation itself and subsequent management decisions.
What can we investigate?
Every instruction is assessed individually. Depending on the circumstances, we may be able to assist with investigations concerning:
-
Employee misconduct
-
Investigating allegations of inappropriate conduct, breaches of workplace procedures or other employee misconduct.
-
Internal theft and dishonesty
-
Investigating suspected theft, unauthorised removal of company property, dishonesty or other concerns involving company assets.
-
Workplace complaints and grievances
-
Establishing the facts surrounding complaints or allegations between employees or other individuals within an organisation.
-
Policy and procedure breaches
-
Investigating allegations that workplace policies, procedures or internal requirements have not been followed.
-
Conflicts of interest
-
Examining circumstances where an individual's personal or external interests may conflict with their responsibilities to an organisation.
-
Other workplace concerns
Where your circumstances do not fall neatly into one of these categories, we can discuss the matter and determine whether an investigation is appropriate.
Our approach to workplace investigations
We take an evidence-led and proportionate approach to each investigation.
Depending on the scope of the instruction, this may involve:
1. Initial assessment
Understanding the allegation, the circumstances and the issues that need to be established.
2. Investigation planning
Establishing the appropriate scope, lines of enquiry and evidence required.
3. Evidence gathering
Reviewing relevant documentation and information and, where appropriate, undertaking further investigative enquiries.
4. Witness enquiries and interviews
Speaking with relevant individuals to establish their account of events and identify further lines of enquiry.
5. Analysis
Considering the available evidence and the different accounts provided during the investigation.
6. Investigation report
Producing a clear written report setting out the matters investigated, evidence considered and findings reached within the agreed scope of the investigation.
Impartiality & Independence
An external investigator can provide an additional level of independence where an organisation considers that an internal investigation may not be appropriate.
Our role is to establish the facts rather than determine the outcome of any subsequent disciplinary or employment process.
We do not act as an advocate for either party. Investigative enquiries should consider information that may support an allegation as well as information that may contradict or qualify it.
Evidence-led Investigations
A workplace investigation should be based on the available evidence rather than assumptions.
Depending on the circumstances, relevant evidence may include:
-
Emails and correspondence
-
Company records and documentation
-
Policies and procedures
-
Access or security records
-
CCTV or other available footage
-
Digital or documentary evidence provided lawfully
-
Witness accounts
-
Photographs or other relevant material
-
Information identified during the investigation
The precise evidence required will depend on the circumstances and scope of the instruction.
Reporting & Documentation
Where a written report is required, we can provide a structured record of the investigation.
Depending on the instruction, this may include:
-
Background and scope
-
Matters investigated
-
Investigation methodology
-
Evidence considered
-
Witness accounts
-
Relevant documentation
-
Findings in relation to the matters investigated
-
Any limitations encountered during the investigation
-
The report can then be provided to the commissioning organisation for consideration alongside its own policies and procedures and, where appropriate, professional employment or legal advice.
Confidentiality
Workplace investigations can involve sensitive personal and organisational information.
Information obtained during an investigation is handled professionally and confidentially, subject to the requirements applicable to the instruction and any legal or regulatory obligations.
Before accepting an instruction, we will discuss the circumstances, scope and information required to determine whether we are able to assist.
